Acupuncture Therapy involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body to help treat imbalances within the Internal energetic system. This energy is known as 'Qi' (chi). The food that we eat and the air that we breathe is converted into 'chi energy' that is used throughout the body and keeps us alive, well and functioning properly.

This energy travels around the body in certain pathways called 'meridian channels' very much like our blood vessels carry blood.  When an injury or illness occurs, the balance of chi is effected and these pathways can become blocked causing pain, or deficiant causing illness to arise. 'Chi' energy is often thought of as 'esoteric' as it cannot be measured by modern scientific methods.

The concept of 'Chi' is much the same as the western concept of Quantum Physics. The Chinese have spent over 4000 years observing how the body reacts to natural forces like wind, cold, damp and heat. Emotions, diet, exercise and medication all have an effect on the human body causing a continued adjustment of balance (homeostasis).

Sometimes we do not have the means or time to relax and heal ourselves properly, in modern times life is very demanding and we rarely have any time for peace and quiet, let alone time to rest, exercise and sleep.

The application of Traditional Chinese Medicine aims to correct these Imbalances and promote the natural healing process by restoring deficiant energy ( caused by stress, over work, poor diet, chronic Illness) or removing excessive energy (caused by excessive lifestlyes, repressed emotions, rich diet, over Indulgence)

The application of inserting needles into specific points along these channels is thought to unblock, reduce or promote the flow of energy in these channels to help relieve pain and the symptoms of many physical and mental conditions.

Both Chinese Medicine and Indian Aryuvedic Medcine are applied holistically, meaning that the history of your health is of great importance, your lifestyle, diet, emotional life and current symptoms. All these factors are belong to the 'landscape' of your present health. It is this reason that traditional methods seem to benefit many conditions that westerm medicine fails to have a positive effect.

"To treat pain and injury you must first start at the beginning"

Acupuncture is now widely supported by the NHS and the World Health Organisation (WHO) continue to promote the great benefits of this treatment and its cost effective application.

Acupuncture Information

Does it hurt?

  • Acupuncture is not like the needle sensation you get when you have had to give blood or receive injections from western doctors.
  • The insertion is painless as the needles are very thin and designed to give little resistence.
  • The sensation can be slightly distending when the needles are manipulated through treatment, some describe it as like someone pressing the skin, pinching or stinging sensation.

What if i don't like needles?

  • We will do everything we can to help explain and discuss the treatment if you are nervous about Acupuncture.
  • If you feel that you would like to try something different we can offer various other methods and systems to help you with your condition.

Every care is taken with those attending Acupuncture for the first time, once you have experienced the positive effects of Acupuncture this is much easier to understand.
